Copymio

Privacy Policy

Copymio stores clipboard history on your Mac by default.
When you use Ask AI, the content you select goes directly to the service you configured.

Clipboard history

Copymio is provided by an independent developer under the Inkcore brand. While running, it saves text, links, rich text, images, file references and colors according to your settings, along with source apps, copy times, titles and pinboard information. History stays on your Mac by default; the developer does not receive it.

Image text recognition runs on your Mac using Apple Vision. Recognized text is saved with the local image record for search and extraction. Recognition does not send the image to an AI service. Recognized text is not synced with history and can be rebuilt on each Mac.

Copymio skips content marked as concealed by the source app by default. You can also exclude apps in Settings → Privacy. Passwords or keys copied as ordinary text may still be saved. Copies from browser extensions usually appear as coming from the browser.

File cards store references, not backups. File access permissions stay on the current Mac and are not synced with history. You can clear them in Settings → Privacy; access already in use may remain valid until the app restarts, when access may be requested again. If a file moves, is deleted or loses permission, follow the prompt to reselect the same original or copy the file again.

In the store edition, Browser Links reads titles and URLs from open Safari, Chrome, and Edge tabs when you invoke it. The list stays in the current window’s memory and is discarded when closed; it is not saved to clipboard history, uploaded, or synced. Only selected links are copied or pasted through the system clipboard, where other clipboard tools may read them. This feature never automatically sends a chat message. Chrome and Edge private windows are excluded; Safari may return private tabs. You can revoke browser access in the system Automation settings.

AI features

Ask AI uses an OpenAI-compatible service you configure. It sends your question, selected materials, their titles and sources, response instructions and any enabled conversation context directly to that service. Images are sent only when selected and image support is enabled for the model. The first send shows the endpoint and sharing scope; changing services, adding custom instructions or expanding image or history scope asks again.

API keys are stored in macOS Keychain and associated with their endpoints. The selected endpoint receives its corresponding key with a request. Remote connections use HTTPS; local services may use localhost HTTP. Connection tests send a short test prompt without clipboard materials or conversation history.

You use and pay for the model service directly. Its policies determine how it uses, retains and deletes received data. Deleting local records, closing a chat or revoking permission in Copymio does not delete data already received by that service. Contact the provider about deletion.

Copymio has no built-in ads or in-app behavior analytics. AI conversations live only in their current windows and are discarded when closed. Answers you explicitly save as cards become ordinary text history and follow its retention and deletion settings.

Managing and deleting data

You can pause recording, exclude apps, delete items or change retention settings. New installations keep the latest 500 ordinary history items by default. Pinboards are kept separately and need separate cleanup. Your in-app settings determine retention.

Ordinary deletion has a five-minute undo window; Permanent Delete skips it. An active paste queue temporarily keeps the images it needs until the queue ends. To clear content, end the queue, close AI chats, then remove history and pinboard items.

Clear AI sending permissions in Settings → Privacy to be asked again on the next send. To remove an API key, remove the saved key in model settings and save before deleting the model configuration. Deleting a configuration or revoking sending permission alone may leave a Keychain credential behind.

You can change keystroke-sending permission in macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security. Copying items for manual paste remains available. Copymio requires no account and has no developer backend that receives local history. Manage local records on your own Mac.

Sync and updates

Sync is off by default. The store version supports iCloud history sync when you turn it on. Relevant existing and new history, pinboards, images and item metadata are stored in your private iCloud database and synced between Macs signed in to the same iCloud account. Temporary AI chats and API keys are not synced with history; AI answers you choose to save as cards are treated as ordinary history. Files sync as references only; originals and access permissions stay on the local Mac. Turning sync off does not delete existing cloud records. Deletions made while sync is on propagate to other devices with sync enabled; automatic retention cleanup does not delete cloud records.

Versions with author updates enabled fetch public author and product information from Apple CloudKit and cache it locally. Requests contain no clipboard history, API keys or conversations. Website links open only when clicked.

The Mac App Store version updates through the store. Direct-download versions contact their configured public release repository when checking for updates.

Website and support emails

This website uses no ads, third-party analytics, external fonts or tracking cookies. Its demo uses sample content without reading your clipboard, calling AI or saving your interactions; refreshing resets it. Clicking Copy Answer attempts to place the sample answer on your clipboard.

Our host processes network information such as your IP address, request time and path, and browser information to serve pages, maintain security and troubleshoot issues. Server logs rotate daily, with at most 10 rotated files retained. When you email support, the developer receives your address, message and attachments to respond and follow up. Please leave out passwords, API keys and full clipboard histories.

We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-site or cross-app behavioral advertising. DNT and GPC signals do not change this practice. Any future optional analytics or change of purpose will be disclosed first, with consent where law or platform rules require it.

Support emails are kept for responses, necessary follow-up and related disputes, then deleted unless legal retention is required. They are not used for marketing. You can request deletion or ask about the reason for retention.

Scope and legal bases

This policy covers Copymio and copymio.com. Inkcore is the independent developer’s brand. The developer is responsible for processing whose purposes it determines, including website logs and support emails. Data kept only on your device is not sent to the developer by this policy. Third-party responsibilities depend on their actual services and applicable law.

Where EEA or UK data protection law applies, requested features and necessary support rely on performing a contract or taking pre-contractual steps. General inquiries and website security rely on legitimate interests balanced against your rights. Compliance, necessary legal records and valid legal requests rely on the relevant legal obligations.

Reading this policy or continuing to use the app is not consent to every optional activity. AI confirmation covers the recipient and scope shown. Declining or revoking it does not affect local history, search or manual paste. Missing necessary details may limit a support response. Before sharing someone else’s or sensitive data, make sure you may do so; an app confirmation does not replace other legal requirements.

Providers and processing locations

The privacy policy and support pages are planned to be hosted by Tencent Cloud in Singapore; support uses NetEase 163 email. These services process necessary data for page access, mail delivery, storage and operations. Locations and further recipients for AI, Apple services and off-store updates depend on those services. An endpoint’s domain does not establish every processing location.

Visiting from another country, emailing support or using third-party services may involve international processing and different protections. Transfers subject to legal restrictions require the relevant contracts, assessments or other valid arrangements before processing; accepting this policy or clicking Send does not replace them. You can ask about recipients, locations and safeguards for processing the developer is responsible for.

Your rights

Depending on law and circumstances, you may have rights to information, access, copies, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent. Withdrawal does not affect earlier consent-based processing. We do not sell information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not discriminate for exercising legal rights.

You may object on grounds relating to your situation where processing relies on legitimate interests. We will review it under applicable law and explain whether processing continues and why.

Email support with the data concerned and what you would like done. We may verify identity, scope or agent authority as needed, without asking for passwords, API keys or your full history. Local records the developer does not hold remain manageable in the app. Requests about data the developer holds or is responsible for will still be handled, with guidance where needed. Requests are normally free; any lawful charge and its basis will be explained in advance.

We respond within applicable legal deadlines. Any lawful restriction, extension or refusal will include reasons and available remedies. EEA requests normally receive a response within one month; complex or multiple requests may take up to two further months, with notice in the first month. UK access requests follow local deadlines and necessary clarification rules. Shorter applicable deadlines take priority.

You may complain to the competent data protection authority. Making a request does not limit other legal remedies.

Security and children

Copymio uses local storage, macOS Keychain, remote HTTPS and file permissions to protect data. History and image files have no additional app-level content encryption. Device and backup protection still depends on your system, disk encryption and backup settings. Protect access to your Mac and consider what you send to third-party services.

Copymio does not create advertising profiles or make automated decisions using personal information with legal or similarly significant effects. If data the developer is responsible for is affected by a security incident, we will investigate, take remedial steps and notify people or authorities as required by law. Third-party security and retention follow their own policies.

Copymio is a general productivity tool, not designed for children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the website or support. Guardians can contact support if this happens; we will investigate and delete, restrict or otherwise handle the data as required. Other local child-age and guardian-consent rules, and AI providers’ own age requirements, still apply.

Significant changes, such as new sharing or purposes, will be announced in the app or website before taking effect, with consent requested where required. Language versions should mean the same thing; translation differences do not reduce your legal rights.
